When Andréa and Nathan Cook became Mentors with Florida MENTOR last year, they expected to open their home to a teenager in need. Then, their lives changed with one phone call last January. “MENTOR called us and said ‘We have a 12-week-old boy who needs a home. Would you be able to take him?’” recalls Andréa. That afternoon, Michael came home. His brother Elijah joined the family in May. The Cooks’ daughter Addison was born in July. Despite the challenges that come with caring for three children under the age of three, Andréa and Nathan are tireless advocates—not just for their children, but for all children in Florida in need of a safe, loving home.
Watch Andréa and Nathan accept their 2010 Ripple of Hope Award and be honored alongside their fellow winners at the Children’s Museum in Boston, Massachusetts.
