During Donald Coleman’s 12-year career with REM, he has inspired his coworkers with his patience, energy and positive attitude in his role as a Direct Support Professional serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and physical challenges.
Donald foregoes ease and efficiency to include his clients in daily activities. If they are unable to complete or participate in chores, Donald talks them through the steps as he prepares homemade dinners or does laundry. Whether it’s encouraging a healthy diet to reduce the need for medication, or discovering what individuals enjoy so their willingness to go out in the community increases, Donald pays attention to the preferences, smiles and possibilities.
Watch Donald accept his 2012 Ripple of Hope Award and be honored alongside his fellow winners in St. Paul at the Minnesota History Center.
