To say that award winner Eric Levin has a few admirers at CCS-Carbondale would be an understatement. His colleagues describe him as “a gem,” the “glue of the team,” an incredible, humble person who “approaches his work with heartfelt generosity and unconditional caring for all those in need,” and “the most selfless and giving person I have ever encountered.” Not surprisingly, Eric, a counselor to individuals recovering from an acquired brain injury, shuns such talk, choosing instead to focus on the personal connections he has made with those he supports. Eric understands that the recovery of those who have survived brain injuries can’t be kept to a schedule and, as a result, he regularly gives up his own time during evenings and weekends to check in with participants or take them out to dinner or into the community for a movie or concert. Despite experiencing significant hardship in his personal life, Eric has an unwavering faith in the power of the human spirit.
The 2006 Ripple of Hope Awards winners were honored on November 13th, 2006 at the John Joseph Moakely United States Courthouse in Boston, Massachusetts.
