After a successful career as a mental health nurse, Karleen Larson opened her home to two pre-teen girls with profound physical and developmental disabilities. Sherrita and Nikki attended a specialized school, and when the school needed a new computer, Karleen purchased it. She installed a ramp, elevator, lifts and a handicapped bathtub in her home to ensure it was totally accessible to the girls—all at her own expense. But more than that, Karleen provided the unconditional love and care that the girls had long been denied. Together they thrived as a family.
