New Jersey MENTOR attends NJAYF Annual Membership Appreciation and Community Awards Breakfast
On March 2, New Jersey MENTOR attended the New Jersey Alliance for Children Youth and Families’ (NJAYF) Annual Membership Appreciation and Community Awards Breakfast. The breakfast is held each year to honor outstanding individuals within the Alliance and outside community partners who serve New Jersey families. After the breakfast, the group of 11 New Jersey MENTOR employees, along with Marty Krupnick from IEP Services, and the New Jersey Children Youth and Families Director Megann Anderson, took advantage of an opportunity to tour the State House. What happened next surprised everyone in the group.
The group was made up of the only participants who accepted the invitation to tour the State House. They had to take a quick detour because of other events that day, which led them into the Governor’s Chambers. Governor Christie found out that New Jersey MENTOR was part of NJAYF, and took fifteen minutes out of his day to speak with the group. The Governor chatted about a number of topics, and thanked New Jersey MENTOR for the advocacy and efforts in supporting New Jersey’s youth and families. This accidental meeting laid a great foundation for future advocacy opportunities and continued relationship building with the Governor and his office.
Congratulations to New Jersey MENTOR on a successful day at the State House!
